Goal:
The student will use prompts to write for a variety of purposes using the 5 steps of the writing process.

Grade Level Expectations addressed
" 1: The student understands and uses a writing process.
" 1:1 Pre writes to generate ideas and plan writing
" 1:2 Produces drafts
" 1:3 Revises to improve text
" 1:4 Edits text
" 1:5 Publishes text to share with an audience

Time for Kids Writers Notebook
PCI: Basic Writing Series
Meeting Writing Standards series
Computers with Write Out Loud
Alpha Smart, Neo smart or Dana (available for student use)
Miscellaneous supplementary materials

Students will:
1: Use graphic organizers to pre-plan their writing, prepare a draft, revise their work, proofread, and type the final draft.
2: The students will develop characters, setting, and plot in a variety of fiction stories.
3. Students will write poems using multiple formats.
4: Students will write non-fiction that includes letters, persuasive essay, personal narrative, newspaper story, and research paper.
5: Students will create and illustrate a story using multimedia and the computer
6: Students will create and publish a CBT Department Newsletter

Grade:
Attendance is important for the participation portion of your grade. This cannot be "made up."
1: 40% participation
2: 40 % completed assignments and class work
3: 20% multimedia presentation
